Mall Shopping Changes
Researchers comparing the behavior of people shopping at a Florida mall during 1993 and 1999 found that significant changes in behavior occurred over that period even though the demographics of the people shopping hadn’t changed. Compared to 1993 mall shoppers, 1999 mall shoppers were likely to:
- Be visiting the mall later in the day.
- Have traveled further to get to the mall.
- Visit more stores while in the mall.
- Stay longer at the mall.
- Purchase more items (not including food and drink, for which there was no difference between 1993 and 1999 shoppers).
- Say that they came to the mall to look and browse rather than to make a specific purchase.
