Using Existing Data Sources

Before collecting your own original data, it can be useful to check what data already exists on your research subject. Using existing data sources (e.g., U.S. Census Bureau) is a cost-effective and time-saving method for gathering business information. Even if incomplete, such data can provide a good starting point for collecting your own original data.

When using existing data sources, it is important to ask yourself the following questions:

Is the data applicable to my situation?
Is the data current?
Is the research valid?
